As the Facebook group, HUCKLEBERRY HUNTING & RECIPES (aka The Purple Fingers Club) is about to hit 40K members (plus about 6K visitors who commented but never joined), we are excited (but sad), to announce that Mal & Sandy Dell recently SOLD their WildHuckleberry.com website, which includes management of this FB GROUP and the I LOVE WILD HUCKLEBERRIES Facebook PAGE.
When we started this community over 15 years ago, we knew there was extreme passion and love for this delicious iconic berry. But we underestimated.
Watching this tribe of huckleberry hounds create one of the more active and (mostly) joyful outdoor affinity communities on Facebook, warmed our hearts, and kept us moving.
Now in our early 70s, we invite you to WELCOME the new facilitators of this Group, Christina and Scott Cossairt of Oregon Mushrooms.
Being in the forest fungus business, the Cossairts understand the peripheral huckleberry business, and will be good stewards supporting your love of this irreplaceable resource.
And before we go, we need to mention the support of Tia Doser who runs the “Idaho Huckleberries” group on FB. Tia, we appreciate you as a valuable moderator for us the past few years. Thanks, a “patch”! (better than a “bunch”!)
As part of the transition, we’ve enjoyed several conversations, online and by phone, with Christina (who will be your online contact) and Scott. These are GOOD PEOPLE! You will enjoy working with them.
We see and hear the huckleberry season is a week or two earlier than normal in 2025, so get out there and get those fingers purple. I am headed for upper Clearwater County, Idaho to scout in the coming couple weeks.
Lately I’ve been enjoying the Service (Sarvis, June, Prairie, Saskatoon) berries growing around our place. A mediocre substitute for the real berry, but actually pretty good, and full of polyphenols. Make a good pie with a cinnamony crust.
